United Through Reading is grateful for SDG&E every single day. Not simply for light, heat and air conditioning, but for SDG&E’s dedication to the military which is woven into the fiber of the company.
Ten percent of the SDG&E team hold veteran status. You’ll find veterans in entry level positions all the way up to CEO Jeff Martin, former U.S. Army officer and helicopter pilot. Those veterans and their colleagues provide electricity and natural gas services to all San Diego-based military installations and to 10,000 military family housing units for active duty personnel. The U.S. Navy is SDG&E’s single largest customer.
Furthermore, SDG&E actively demonstrates respect for the sacrifices that military families make in service to our country. The company supports organizations that assist veterans and intentionally works with veteran-owned businesses in their supplier diversity program. Within our community, SDG&E provided $500,000 in charitable grants last year to 75 non-profit organizations that support military and veteran families, including United Through Reading.
On behalf of military families throughout Southern California, we salute SDG&E Company for tackling the unprecedented challenges of active-duty service members and returning veterans.
United Through Reading (UTR), a nonprofit organization, eases the fear, uncertainty and anxiety felt by children in military families by offering military parents who are away from their families the opportunity to be video-recorded reading storybooks aloud to their children at home.
