Honoree: Carol Raiter
In 2009, Carol Raiter, jumped in head-first as event chair to create a truly magical event, the very first Storybook Ball gala celebrating United Through Reading’s 20th anniversary. Her vision for the event has enabled United Through Reading to tell their story, expand their network of support, and raise critically needed funds. Because of her unwavering support of United Through Reading’s mission, the Storybook Ball has raised more than $2 million dollars in the past six years, which has enabled the organization to serve hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries. Carol Raiter is loved and admired, in large part for her leadership and generosity of time and talents. Her willingness to share her business knowledge, relationships and creativity has only grown as she continues to help others. In addition to United Through Reading’s Storybook Ball, Carol also co-founded the Coronado Schools Foundation Gala, the Coronado Historical Association Gala and made changes to the Soroptimist Luncheon that has led to the event's success today. She has also chaired countless other events including two galas for the National Charity League. She has served on the Coronado Schools Foundation board and is currently on her sixth year of the Coronado Historical Association Board. Carol and her dedicated husband, Eric — always a willing helpmate of Carol’s philanthropic efforts — have 3 children, 7 grandsons and 1 granddaughter.
United Through Reading (UTR), a nonprofit organization, eases the fear, uncertainty and anxiety felt by children in military families by offering military parents who are away from their families the opportunity to be video-recorded reading storybooks aloud to their children at home.
