CUSTOM CRAFTSMAN DOLLHOUSE
Built and decorated by United Through Reading Senior Leadership Council Members, Rear Admiral Stephen Loeffler, USN (Ret), and Deborah Loeffler to honor United Through Reading's 27th Anniversary, 27 Storybook Lane is a miniature craftsman inspired “Classic Bungalow” in 1/12 scale. The three exterior colors are from Frank Lloyd Wright's color palette. A large porch, featuring a hand planked walnut floor, invites visitors to sit and enjoy reading a good book by the hand painted Bee Cottage lamp. Or, you may want to watch the naughty kitten playing with the goldfish!
Any homeowner would be proud of the beautifully landscaped gardens with many of the plants created by English miniature gardner Julia Tollafield of ToIly's Treasures. Make sure to see her tomato plant and gorgeous goblin blanket flowers on the potting stand ready for planting in the gardens.
Step inside and you will see three original watercolors from Avignon, France, on the walls. The alder floors are hand-beveled and hand planked. Grandpa is reading a fully illustrated, "Twas the Night Before Christmas" by Clement Clarke Moore to his attentive granddaughter in front of the fireplace. A Della Robbia Christmas tree, hand painted dessert china, and hot chocolate adds to the festive decorations. Don’t miss the glittering apple tower table decoration, handmade by miniature artisan Marie Petrik that sits over a collection books by one of our favorites authors, Dr. Seuss!
Visit the kitchen and you will see the Christmas ham and a gingerbread house, as well as holiday desserts ready to be served. Hand painted dishes, a fruit bowl from England, and a lovely braided rug set the stage for a cozy dinner.
Upstairs in the bathroom, the black and white color scheme is enhanced by a stunning Italian hand decoupaged sink with crystal knobs and matching mirror. An original watercolor adds a touch of fun to the room.
The master bedroom boasts an original stained glass window, working bamboo shades, and dragonfly motif Tiffany lamps by Reutter Porcelain. Miniature artisan, Serena Johnson created the silk bed, a stunning focal point to the room.
Lastly, the granddaughter's bedroom, ready for when she visits, is decorated in lovely pinks and greens - every little girl's dream colors.
